"Between the Buns" - Street Vendor

My favorite cache for my photos and art is at flickr.com. This week, at the "urban sketchers" group, the theme is "street vendors." So I drove downtown yesterday to this hot dog stand, "Between the Buns," and did a very rough, and hopefully appropriately 'loose' sketch of the place.

She is running a "land office" business as there was a steady stream of customers: even in 100 degree temperatures. I bought a polish from her and it was pretty good. Maybe not as good as those at Costco, and certainly priced just a touch higher; but good anyway. You can find the sketch at the "urban sketchers" theme site here.

EDM Challenge 100: Landscape

This landscape was sketched a couple years ago when we lived on the west side of the state. I had a sketch buddy there and we frequently went about the area drawing and painting in our finest plein aire fashion.

This barn sat off the main road on the way into town and, more than likely, is much closer to the ground by now.

EDM Challenge 101: bar of soap

Haven't sketched in the Danny Gregory style for months and haven't posted at EDM for longer than that.

This is my bar of soap. Can you tell what brand it is?

The sketch and watercoloring took about 10 minutes.

"Three Tomatoes"

I bought these three tomatoes in the grocery store last November, set them up and photographed them with my digital camera. I have been working on them, off and on, a little bit here, a little bit there, ever since. For weeks I stared at the stems, fearful of what damage I would do with the greens, but last night I sat down and painted them in about 15 minutes.

"Early Sunflowers"

The sun has finally gone down on the last day of winter and soon all the flowers will emerge in their fiery summer outfits. In honor of all that coming glory, color and wonder, here's a little bouquet of sunflowers to brighten this gray and still cold day.
