"Early Sunflowers"

The sun has finally gone down on the last day of winter and soon all the flowers will emerge in their fiery summer outfits. In honor of all that coming glory, color and wonder, here's a little bouquet of sunflowers to brighten this gray and still cold day.

Ink and watercolor in my little moleskine.

  2. Gorgeous! Love the contrasting background, really makes those sun floewers "pop"! What kind of ink pen do you use? The lines are so fine....

  3. This is beautiful. It looks like the watercolor did well on the moleskine.

  4. Bonny: the pen is a Staedtler Pigment Liner - #01 (thin).

Sioux: I have found if the moleskine is moistened, it takes the watercolor much better. I think I may be one of the few people who really like the affect.

  5. Jim, I'm beginning to like that weird effect the moleskine paper has on the watercolor, too. You got an exceptionally good painting on this one, though -- such good color saturation!

  6. Beautiful colors and contrast! Love it. I also am one of the few that love WC on the Moleskine, and I think you are one that convinced me to keep trying. Thanks.
