A friend and I drove out to Red Mountain here in eastern Washington to find something to sketch. After driving around a while, viewing some very lovely landscapes scenes, closeup grape clusters, and wineries, we settled in here at Hedges Winery.
What I like about the facade of the building is that it has this classic European look. I'm not good at discerning the differences between Baroque, Renaissance, Greek, architecture (the art history class was waayy too many years ago), but I'm thinking it's in there somewhere. Anyway, we both settled in on this particular point of view and sat down in the late afternoon sun and had a great time drawing and adding some color.
According the reports we see in our newspaper and literature found at the wineries at Red Mountain, the terrior of the west side of the mountain is more similar to that of the French vineyards than any other locale in the United States. Sounds a little like a "chamber" claim, but who knows? I do know this, the wines they produce out there are very fine.

It's a beautiful sketch, Jim! It does, indeed look like a little slice of Europe!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Betty - it's beautiful and does, indeed, look European! nancy

ReplyDeleteI am always amazed by your street view sketches, the amount of details, and the strong colors, and the way your draw trees are just so vibrant and vivid. =) Love it!
