"The Sketchbook Project #3: Library Man"

Libraries provide perfect opportunities to draw people who aren't "on the move" like they are in food marts and other places where they are in a big hurry. Library patrons move very slowly, whether they are studying, writing, reading, computing, or some cases, knapping.

This gentlemen sat very quietly reading his magazine, and though I commented that "with-in 5 mins, he finished," he didn't really. The theme for my sketchbook is, "In 5 mins.....," so I have decided to pepper my comments with that short phrase, somewhere, in each sketch. It's the best I could come up with.

  1. This is great! You're going to have so much fun with this In-five-minutes theme! I can't wait to see more!

  2. Hi Jim, Wonderful sketch and I agree with Katherine, working "in-five-minutes" into your sketches will be interesting. I like the gesture and the line work on your drawing.

  3. I like what you've done so far Jim. With regards to the paper some people have glued pages together so that the ink doesn't show through, but I decided to draw on my own paper then I stick it onto the page. It's a little bit fiddly at first but now I've got the size perfect and the sketchbook isn't as bulky as i thought it would be.

  4. I love these drawings and don't think you have had too much problems with the images on the paper. I also had problems with watercolour on the thin pages but am not an accomplished artist so thought it was all down to me, good to see Im not alone from your comments, not from your work.
