I don't know why I have this propensity to post EVERY SKETCH I do. Some of them, I know, are horrendous, but you know what? I like them anyway. They all show that, alas...I am not perfect and so, therefore, neither is my art. I think they also show that I am basically pretty lazy. They are all hurried - quick, get it done, get it scanned, get it posted, look it over and think, 'this isn't very good,' then write something short and fast, and hit 'save.' Am I the only one that does this insanely, obsessively, addictively? I think so.
So anyway, this is my camera. I love it, I take it with me everywhere and I try to use it even when it is a bit uncomfortable to do so: "Ma'am, do you mind if I take a picture of that two-headed child you have?" But as I do ask these questions, it is getting easier, sometimes, to ask them.

Jim, I post everything too. Proof I don't practice enough and consistently.
ReplyDeleteLove your camera! I keep a small digital with me at all times, but I feel better when holding a larger camera.
Hi Jim. Found you through your comments on Anita Davies' blog.
ReplyDeleteI post all my sketches too because you never know what will resonate with folks. I posted several doodles that I thought were good, then as an afterthought added a really rough pencil sketch of a dog. Wouldn't ya know, that's the one everybody loved and commented on. Barely a mention of the others.
So don't self edit, post 'em all!
This is an awesome drawing, Jim! I really like how you handled the reflections. I post most of the drawings that I do, although some are just too awful.
ReplyDeleteI like it when people, like yourself, post everything. We get to see the great and the not so great, and those of us who try to draw are so relieved that those we admire can crank out a wonky one now and then too. By the way, if I had drawn this picture, I would have called it a masterpiece extraordinairre!
ReplyDeleteYep, me too, the good, the bad and damn right ugly all go on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI like your camera sketch and your text mbrought a smile to my face this morning...Thanks!
I like the fact that you are prolific enough to put the good, the bad, and the ugly up for general review...and-truth be told-the great majority of your sketches and written observations are on the 'good' end of the spectrum!
ReplyDeleteYour forward drawing momentum is also noteworthy to those like me who constantly fight the second law of thermodynamics in the drawing arena.
Keep the light burning.
Cool camera and drawing! And fun post too (I don't think you're the only one at all!)
ReplyDeleteha this is totally me too with my camera! I need to get my lazy bum to post my work more though, but I do the same thing! :)
