EDM #129: People Doing Something

I intended to attempt to capture the intensity in the older man's face while he contemplated the move he's about to make with this bocchi ball; but I found myself engrossed with his hands instead.

I love the play of light across faces, hands, hills; and I like the way these fingers caress and support this heavy, solid, ball.

  1. gorgeously rendered. the 'lost' edges of the hands ironically add so much more to this drawing

  3. The range of values here is compelling--from the dark side of the ball to the dark spaces between fingers. To consider: I wonder, though, if the turning edge of the shadow on the ball was that distinct? That's the only thing that strikes me as slightly improbable.
Enjoying your use of graphite and seeing you active on EDM again.

  4. Nice sketch, I think you captured the man's intensity in just his hands. Nice use of space as well.

  8. wow! you did an incredibly job with detail. Hands are definately not easy, and oddly enough circles/spheres (in my experince) aren't either so I really admire how you were able to beautifully capture both.

  9. Lovely work, and you've really captured those aged hands, the sollen joints and the lovely shadows.

  10. Wow, great hands! I admire you for doing them from a moving model. Very difficult indeed but you pulled this off wonderfully. Love the value range and the highlights.
