Mysterious Web Lady

I found her on the internet and couldn't help trying to capture her essence with a bit of graphite. I find faces so fascinating and difficult to draw. I keep thinking that one of these days I'll get one perfect.

What do you think? Is this too tight? I can't tell with my own stuff.

  2. This is a great portrait! You did justice to her eyes - they have so much character! And her wrinkles look wonderful!

  3. I don't think it's too tight at all. Could it be looser? Sure, but then that would be a different drawing. Not necess. better, just different. I like the contrast you've achieved in the values, especially with her lips, and the shadow under her nose. And the way you balanced the highlights in the center of her face gives it a nice dimension.

  4. I agree with everything Juj writes. I understand what you mean about "tightness", but I think it works here. It's just a matter of what look you are going for.

    Her eyes are amazing!!!!

  6. Great job on her eyes! I don't think it's too tight, but then I agree with what juj wrote...I wish I could draw portraits even half this well (LOL)...

  8. This is a wonderful drawing. Love the shading. Is it too tight? Well, I guess that all depends on what you're trying for. I do photo realism. Could it be looser? Sure. Only advice I can give is that if you use some subtle shading on her wrinkles, it will make the whole drawing pop. Start from the line and lightly, gently blend it out into her face. Great face!

  9. Is she too tight? I don't know...depends on how much she had been drinking before you drew her. (Sorry...couldn't resist.)

I-for one-give good credence to your ability to even attempt to master portraits. The basics appear to be conquered and-it's clear-you are working on levels of subtlety now. The everyday message and expressions in the faces are conveyed totally; so-by your question-it is the ineffables that concern you. If I wrote there's room to draw deeper...does that help or hinder?!
