Taco Salad

A bit reluctant to post this one because it isn't really what I wanted. The biggest problem is the shadow beneath the plate and its incongruity with the shadow of the bottle and the "no shadow" of the glass. Put the glass in the wrong spot to get a good shadow - it wouldn't look good falling across the salad...would it?

Anyway, this is just another sketch in my Barnes and Noble sketchbook with brown pages.

I will never be able to get in a true "sketch a day," but I'm thinking with such high aim, maybe I'll get a few done this year.

  1. That's the way to think! :-)
I don't know if the glass would leave that much of a shadow, would it? Good set up.

  2. The shadow on the bottle clearly defines that your light source is coming from the right. All other shadows would be shown like the bottles, off to the left because the have the same light source. If you eliminated the dark shadows on the right side of the plate and the pizza and added a shadow for the glass (I would make it a lighter shadow because glass is half full) your drawing would be more realistic. Try it on a similar drawing. See if it helps the overall effect.

  3. Jim--
I meant to say taco salad not pizza. Forgot to edit it. Sorry.

  4. believe it or not, the shadow is what attracted my attention and found it unique, even though is incongruent. That is your vision and your paint, so let it be. It's good.
