Two things: I was inspired by Chuck's "3 finches on the deck," especially his technique and wanted to give it a try as soon as possible; and, I spotted this common egret sitting on a limb in this pond on the way home today. I had to capture him in the moleskine. The interesting thing is I've been bird-watching since 1967 (the entries in my Patterson's Field Guide pretty much prove it - the first entry was a black-capped chickadee, 1967), and I've never seen a common egret anywhere near this part of the country before.
I think this is great and especially because it is really Jim style and not Chuck wannabe style ;D. The subject matter is similar, you both work in moleskines, but this has JIM written all over it.
ReplyDeleteThis is really good Jim, and I agree with Laura, your own style.Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI really like this, Jim! It has a very Oriental feeling to it...
ReplyDeleteWell done Jim! The egret is very much the focal point of the whole piece but the background is beautiful too. I agree with the others about it being your style. You were inspired by Chuck's way of working, but the result is all your own.
ReplyDeletewow! this is very nice! did you do the painting also on site? Oh and about the moleskine: you have no problem at all with using watercolor?
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Bravo Bravo! Such lush, olive-colored green hues. :) I like this very much Jim.
ReplyDeleteWell I was trying to draw some of the birds on my deck with no luck at all. Your bird looks very simple but it looks LIKE a bird. I guess I am trying too hard on details. Your art is wonderful Jim.
ReplyDeleteI must concur with everyone here Jim. I'm flattered that my work prompted you to draw, but as Laura said, this has Jim written all over it. And it's so easy to 'read'.
ReplyDeleteJim -- this is great. Lovely drawing of a lovely bird.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I forgot to congratulate you on getting "Joe" into a show. Let us know how that goes. I've never been in a show. I'm trying to build up a larger body of work but for I try that. But I'd love to know how it goes for you.
ReplyDeletevery nice study indeed
ReplyDeleteWow, I love birds and this painting is really great. Beautiful egret..don't think I've ever seen one around here.
ReplyDeleteI've tried using those field guides in the past when I've seen birds I didn't recognize. But I'm never sure even with those guides if I really identify them correctly, LOL
Gorgeous drawing/painting!
