"The Copper Kettle"

After scrounging through the kitchen, this was what my eye landed on for the Everyday Matters challenge for bottles, tins, etc. My wife keeps it as a piece of decoration because we have no idea what it used to contain. The original is corroded at the seams and it could be kinda scary if anyone actually stored anything edible in it.

  1. Nice job! I like the way the kettle has that subtle shading - very much like old metal....

  2. A beautiful sketch, Jim. Conveys the shape and depth of the piece with great simplicity.

The item reminds me of the containers that were used in my grandmother's day to get the milk from the milkman, before bottles and cartons. People would take the container to the milkman's cart, where he would dip the milk from a larger version of the same.

  3. Yes, I agree with Robyn - in India this shape would be instantly recognizable as a milk container. Nice sketch!

  5. Jim, you've done a nice job of capturing the old glow of the copper. I agree with the others -- I instantly thought about an old milk container.

I like the way you've rendered the metal texture!
