"The Old Gas Pump Gang"

I hope this is the last attempt on my part to capture this old gang of gas pumps. Two earlier posts were both watercolor sketches about 4 x 6 in my sketchbook.

This is acrylics on a 9x 12 piece of canvas panel. It was fun to do, and it took a long time; but I'm not real happy with it because, it, like so many of my other pieces, is overworked.

Someone recently told me a college professor told her that a painting is usually done about an hour before the artist think s/he has reached completion.

Such is the case with this one.

  1. I think it is a great painting like all your others. I also never know when something is finished.

  2. It looks great to me! I liked the watercolor sketches and it's nice to see how it turned out on a larger canvas.

  3. I never get tired of your gas pump drawing, and to be honest, I am kinda sad that this could possibly be the last one.
I really like it of course, and perhaps someday you'd come back to it with different medias or colors... who knows =)

  5. What great colors and composition. Never thought I would like old gas pumps. Just goes to prove there is beauty in most things.
My dad had a tendency to overwork and we would just take it off the easel when we thought the time was right. He also allowed us to put our name on the back of a painting and claim it.

  7. Well, I like it very much, specially the colors.
A japanese artist, specialized in traditional paintings, also says that the most difficult is realized when it's time to stop. "You must dialogue with the painting, she is the only one who can tell you when to stop".

  10. I love it! I always think I've either gone too far or stopped too soon. Maybe one of these days I'll figure it out.
