"A Sort of Sketchcrawl Day"

My drawing/sketching friends, Marsha and Dave, and I went down into the belly of Kennewick, WA., to draw the new lighthouse on Clover Island. The lighthouse is essentially functionless in that watercraft no longer need lighthouses, especially on inland waterways such as the Columbia river; but it is a nice addition to an otherwise rather glum piece of man-made island they are trying to beautify. One thing about this sketch is that it is a fairly good demonstration of how to "fix" problems, such as perspective on circles, with dark brown ink. The Blue Bridge in the background connects Pasco to Kennewick (and vice versa). It was built in the early 50's - and when you walk across it, you can feel it move with the traffic. Cool, huh?

After sweltering in sun and heat at the lighthouse, we drove over to the Ice Harbor Brewery, a popular local watering hole and eatery for something cold to drink. Each of the three of us had iced tea (I think it's an age thing); and I sketched the people at the bar. Anyway, after much discussion about art, and our part in it, here in the tri-cities, we left and went elsewhere.

  6. It doesn't appear that the heat affected you adversely at all...these are great! I love the guy in the bandana! (It says I spelled that wrong..oh well) I also like the use of the brown ink for the sky. Was that the part you did to correct the circles? Excellent idea.

  7. These are terrific. It always amazes me when artists get so much detail when sitting in a bar or restaurant. Did you do the watercolor there too, or add it later? Either way these are just great! nancy
