"Dinner at the Diner"

Took my son to dinner at this diner a couple weeks ago and while we were waiting, I sketched the people sitting at the counter. The diner, a national franchise, is not a place you will ever find Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," fame, because though that is the name of his program on the Food Network, he never visits dives. This place would qualify as one - in a hurry.

Anyway, this is another in my series of "quick" sketches that I started doing in response to the "world" Danny Gregory started with his books and yahoo group, "Everyday Matters." I really enjoy doing these, so much that my more serious stuff, if that's appropriate to what it is, is suffering, severely.

  3. I know a woman who took a road trip to Las Vegas a couple of Thanksgivings ago and ate only at dives. She had the best time and met some great people. I'd love to do that one day.

Your drawing shows that lighting that is so distinctive to those places. The people are great and the whole drawing has such a recognizable flavor. Great job.

  7. Were you hiding this talent when you were teaching in Prosser? I'm impressed (as is Steve - he says he thought you only knew how to trace!) I'm glad I visited your blog!

  8. I love your sketches. I don't have time to look at them all right now, but will do so later today and tomorrow. Thank you for all that you did for me as a teenager - I know that I wasn't easy to deal with, but I hope that you'll forgive me.
