This dump truck caught my eye as it was sitting lonely in the corner of a lot waiting for someone to get it involved in all the work going on just a few hundred feet away. I have an affinity for this type of dump truck because I once drove one (when I was seventeen), hauling gravel to a cabin site on Lake Texhoma. It's one of my favorite stories, the things that happened that day, but I'll wait for another time to tell it.

When I started this drawing the only other sketch on the page was that weak looking thing in the upper right hand corner...a street scene viewed from the grocery store parking lot. After drawing the truck, I wanted to fill in the rest of the page, so I came home and sat across the street from my house and drew MY fire-hydrant, and the tree I hung in our cherry tree for the kids.

I am having way too much fun with this new sketchbooking project.
