Van Gogh's Coffe Cup

Museum
Art Museum by dumpr.net

One of the earliest sketches I posted at EDM has been chosen to hang on the walls at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Vincent himself said, "Jim has painted one the most expressive pieces of my art from a cheap rendition, on a fairly expensive coffee mug purchased in an unknown novelty shop. Obviously he is very deserving of this honor."

Thanks, Vinny. Love ya, Man!

  1. Hahaha!

I'm reading a little book about VVG at the moment, which is why I was drawn to your entry on the SuperBlog ... The book is only weeny but it seeks to explode, or at least bypass, the myths about Vincent the tortured, ear-cutting painter of "mad" stuff. Am thoroughly enjoying what the author has to say about the modern Van Gogh "mania" as manifested in souvenir items bearing copies of his paintings ... and just how much you cannot see/know about the work from looking at it in that context, which is pretty much the only context these days.

If only Vince were alive today! I'm sure he would be rushing to buy a mug featuring your sketch of his painting on a mug. :)
