One thing I like to do is open up the morning newspaper and scan it for interesting images I might use to practice my sketching. One such recent entry here was the State Champion below this particular entry.
The image here came from the JC Penney's ad in a flyer that came with today's paper. First I was going to do her head and the heads of the other models in the spread, but then I decided to try her hand. Well, one thing led to another and here she is, cut into two pieces that don't fit. When the Illustration Friday challenge announcement came in later in the morning I was amused to see "summer" as the challenge. Think I'll post this "Summer Girl" there.
You SHOULD put this up for Illustration Friday -- it is great!
ReplyDeleteMy comment went bye bye there. Well here's what I wrote - Beautiful. I like the 2 sections - it's more interesting then the whole picture would be and really like the hightlights in her hair.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Love how you got the hightlights in hair. And 2 sections are much more interesting visually then the whole would be.
ReplyDeleteAs with your other recent drawing, I love the surface texture you've made with graphite.
ReplyDeleteWow Jim, I LOVE THIS!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat technique. I just love this and would love to see the original, not the scan.
Great job man.

You make it sound like a doodle. It would take me hours and a lot of rubbing out to do something like this.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing, where do you get the ideas, I can never find anything I want to draw.
I also liked the two parts. It is often used in comics where details are drawn instead of the whole subject.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a nice graphite pencil style. I love it! Great idea to use the newspaper or magazine for subject ideas.
ReplyDeleteIt is perfect for IF's "summer." You have such a nice touch with the pencil.
