"The Digger"

When I got home today this piece of machinery was parked at the curb in front of my house (neighbor landscaping job). When I brought the sketch in the house, I told my visiting mother-in-law if she could tell me what it was she would get a prize. She said it was a "digger." I don't know what her prize will be, but maybe something connected with food, she likes to eat.

  1. You have a good eye for machinery! Is this going to count as your "tool" drawing for the Everyday Matters weekly challenge? If so, you will surely get the prize for biggest! What is it called anyway? Great job!

  2. Another of my favorite Jim-style drawings! It is just so fresh and energetic and unpretentious. And colorful! Hey, these are all great things to aspire to,and not just in drawing, now that I think of it ;D.

  3. Linda and Laura, thanks so much for your words of encouragement and support. I don't know what it's called, it isn't a backhoe, and it isn't a caterpillar: must be a "digger."

And Laura, "fresh energetic and unpretentious:" I just think of them as "not very good art." But hey, it's all in fun, and I've decided to post it all; it's just that much fun!

  4. That's a big tool. :0 I always wanted my own "digger", for the sand box of course. Back when I was a young girl, the boys had all the truck toys. ;) But I'm sure there are plenty of real live girl digger drivers now! LOL Great sketch Jim.

  5. "not very good art??? Ahem, let US be the judge of that, if you please. And, if you must know, my taste is unerring.

  6. CAn any of you tell me why I get an email in my inbox when you post to my blog, but I can't reply from email to you? I don't like having to respond here, where the poster may never see my response again, or have to go to "your" website and try to find a way to respond....am I missing something? ???

  7. Jim, I know what you mean. The same thing happens to comments on mine -- I guess its just a "thing" about blogger. If you figure out another way around it, please let us know! What I'm wondering is how you figured out how to post multiple pictures using Hello into one entry (your sketchcrawl entry)???? ( and, BTW, I came back looking to find out if the drawing was a backhoe after all. "Digger" works fine.)

  8. Ok, backhoe works too. Hello...upload your pics as usual, then go into your "edit posts," then for each file with an image, go to the "edit html," find the html for your image (in edit html you won't see an image. . . just the html of the image), then copy and paste it, along with the others from the other images in their individual files, into a common file that you will post on your blog. Once you've transferred all the images you want into a common file/post, you can delete all the orginals from your "edit posts." Does that make sense? Let me know...and if you do it, let me know!

  9. That makes perfect sense. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. You're great! Thanks!

  10. Jim - I really 'dig' this. Sorry, somebody had to say it.

On the email issue. It just started happening to me last night. Look at it this way, it's signal that someone has left you a comment.

    Happy days....

  11. No, Chuck, I get the emails when someone posts a comment on my site, I like that too. What I'm saying is, for instance, if I wanted to reply to the email that came in to my inbox from your comment here, I can't do it from the inbox.

  13. That's one tool that I'm sure you'll be glad to see gone. Good drawing!

  14. How long did you stand outside doing the drawing? Maybe someday I'll have that kind of patience, but not now. Oh, and I've operated one of those, by the way, for septic tanks. We called it a "backhoe with scoop," or "backhoe'n'scooper." You sure nailed it, though!-- Lori Li
